NVA Soldier with RPG

IMG_5968

Here is a RPG gunner for my NVA force. Nice is that he has a secondary arm sculpted on . This helps with the rules I play ( Danger Close Version 2). You can read more about the rules here.

As you can see here the model has a big pack of rocket grenades on the back. He really looks the business.

The grenade

After a longer weekend here is the next Empress miniatures figure finished. it is a NVA soldier throwing a stick grenade. A wonderful sculpt from Paul Hicks, it was a joy to paint.

bare headed NVA soldier

Here is another NVA soldier. I painted the trousers in the traditional Vietnamese color, black. So he is only wearing a uniform shirt the rest is civilian wear. So he probably is a irregular forces warrior , VC.

The miniature is again from Empress , sculpted by Paul Hicks.

Tatooine buildings

My son is heavily into Star Wars Legion and I thought it would be nice to make some buildings for him.  So here is a short detour of my Vietnam War project. A Tatooine village.

IMG_6276

I printed the buildings on my I3Mega FDM printer. The files are from Thingiverse. There are loads of things to print for Star Wars Legion there. I glued the buildings and water vaporators  to PVC card as a base and painted them up with my airbrush. Very quick job.

before painting.

Partly finished

And a few more pictures of the finished stuff:

Have to do a little cantina and paint up the rebels from the core set and then it is back to the NAM.

North Vietnamese Army section leader

Today it is time for the section leader of the NVA section I am painting at the moment.

Again an empress miniature sculpted by the very talented Paul Hicks.

The first Hue building

Here is the first Hue city building for my ongoing Vietnam war project. On the picture below you see an old scratch build building of my WWII collection. From a time  3D printing wasn’t available jet. On the left you see the start of the first building of a series of buildings from the citadel of Hue. think base line green. The STL file comes from a Kickstarter by WOW Buildings

IMG_5760

I wanted the pavement to fit with my other buildings so I build it the traditional way, foam and scribing. The walls surrounding the building are from WOW ,too. The base is PVC .

Above you see a few pictures of the build I added some debris to the broken wall .

the base coated building shows clearly the problem with 3D printing. You see the different print layers.

But after painting these vanish more or less.

The finished building with plants and grass added:

For me the way to go is to combine 3d printing with traditional modeling. i think the finished building is presentable.

Private Leonard “Gomer Pyle” Lawrence

IMG_5547 In the first part of the movie Full Metal Jacket, the recruits graduate and receive their Military Occupational Specialty assignments.  Pyle is assigned to Infantry. During the platoon’s final night on Parris Island, Joker discovers Pyle in the head loading his rifle and executing drill commands, and loudly recites the Rifleman’s Creed. This awakens the platoon and drill sergeant Hartman, who confronts Pyle and orders him to surrender the rifle. Pyle shoots Hartman dead and then commits suicide, while Joker helplessly watches in horror. The figure above is an Empress miniature cast for a different story line. Empress assume Pyle doesn’t shoot Hartman and doesn’t commit suicide and in doing so reaches the NAM as an M60 gunner.

Pyle was played by Vincent D’Onofrio.  D’Onofrio heard of the auditions for the film from Modine. Using a rented video camera and dressed in army fatigues, D’Onofrio recorded his audition. Despite Kubrick’s saying that Pyle was “the hardest part to cast in the whole movie”, he quickly responded to D’Onofrio, telling the actor that he had won the part.D’Onofrio was required to gain 70 pounds (32 kg).
