A Diesel engine for my train layout

I thought that a small train station for my Hue project would be nice. There is a complete Hue train station in the WOW Vietnam kickstarter but for me it is just too big. So I started with some tracks and a Diesel engine from another WOW kickstarter.

I wanted to try out the salt and hairspray method of rusting up the engine therefore I base coated the complete model in Vallejo orange brown, my base color for rust and a heavy coat of varnish to protect the base coat.

Then I fixed the salt with water to the parts I wanted to be rusty later on

When this was dry I sprayed the model with hairspray and let it all set over night. Then I airbrushed the main color over the complete model.

Then I took a coarse brush and brushed of the salt. And with a little water added streaks of rust by rubbing of the color and the hairspray to let the orange brown shine through. After adding details like windows lights etc you get this effect:

Here you can see the Engine and track in front of the next project. My train station:

The train station is a WOW 3D stl file too.

A “colonial style” building for my Hue project

Here is the next building for my Hue city project. Another 3D printed building from WOW buildings. It is from the world in ruins kickstarter set. It is intended for a “Saving Privat Rian” setting, but I think it works for Hue too.

Here are some pictures of a Marine Recon squad searching the building:

Will they find the NVA hiding in the building?

More Building to come….

Walls

As I had a lot of shorter 3d printer filament pieces, too short for bigger projects, I printed these walls to finish them off with something useful. Walls like these can be used in between buildings or around parks and along streets. They are not only useful for my city of Hue project. So here they are:

The 3d stl files are from a WOW kickstarter campaign. I always based one wall and one pillar on one base to make them generic enough to be placed on my gaming boards in a multitude of ways.

Here are a few shots of a US Marine fireteam looking for the NVA/VC or is it the other way round?

The villagers

Here are all the people living in my Vietnam war era village. I finished the last Full Metal Miniature yesterday.

So here is the last miniature:

And the village and the inhabitants:

collecting firewood

Another civilian Miniature by Full Metal Miniatures. This time a porter carrying firewood. Painted as usual with GW contrast paints.

The snake catcher

This is a figure of a snake catcher. Figure by Full Metal Miniatures. He is carrying a Y staff for catching the snakes and a basket with lid for disposing the caught snakes.

pushing a bike

Here is another Full Metal Miniature civilian. A woman pushing a bike. A very nice figure especially the bike is very neatly done. A treat to paint.

Another size comparison between a Full Metal Miniature figure and an Empress miniature one:

The complete 2nd squad

Here is the complete 2nd squad of my third US Marine platoon.

Next I will start on my Australian miniatures.

Another building for my Hue city project

First of all I hope you had wonderful holidays during these rather stressing time. I managed to finish another building for my Hue project over the holidays. It is a 3D print from the WOW Vietnam kickstarter. There are another 3 different shops in the kickstarter I have already printed but not yet painted up.

The building is printed in 4 parts so that you can place figures inside each floor. The backyard wall and the pavement is scratch build to fit in with my other buildings.

The adverts are found on the internet and printed out on paper then glued on and matt varnished. Be careful here and use a rattle can or an airbrush as otherwise the color will bleed on the paper.

Here is another picture with an Empress NVA for size comparrison:
