Lord of Bones Wildling chief

The Lord of Bones, also mocked as “Rattleshirt” by the brothers of the Night’s Watch, is a wildling leader of renown. He is called Rattleshirt due to his armor, which is made up of loosely-tied bones that clatter as he moves. He wears a broken giant’s skull as his helm.(Wiki of Ice and Fire). This is my take of him:

It is a Frostgrave barbarian body with a Frostgrave cultists head and some green stuff for the bones. He leads a 6 man unit of heavy Infantry ( two handed weapons ) for my Dragon Rampant Wildling army.

Hope you like what you see! More of my Wildling army over the next weeks.

Intermodellbau 2017 Dortmund Germany

FullSizeRender

The Intermodellbau is a very big modeling convention held annually in the Westfahlenhalle in Dortmund. Arguably it is the biggest convention of its kind in Europe. You can see Miniature figures, plastic models, radio controlled models, Dioramas, railroad models etc. The complete convention center is used , that is 8 very big halls each more or less as big as Salute! Below you see a paper model of the convention center in 1/250 scale:

Thats it for this year . It was a great convention were all sorts of modeling stuff could be seen . I think it is nice sometimes to see what other people are doing in their spare time. The paper models are absolutely stunning and labors of love as there are hundreds of hours spend to build them.

Erwin the blue Dragon

Here is the mascot of my Halfmen army. The blue dragon Erwin. He lives beneath the halfmen stronghold called Schalke in the deep , now derelict, coal mines. A vast dungeon which strikes fear into the strongest man. He can be summoned by Otto the wizard to fight alongside the Schalke hafmen host.

FullSizeRender 16

The model is by reaper bones and quite cheap for such a big model The painting was done with an airbrush and conventionally with the brush.                                                   Feel free to leave a comment or a like if you want.

The wizard Otto summoner of Erwin the….

Here is my halfmen army wizard. He is a summoner of the army mascot Erwin. In real life Erwin is the mascot of the Schalke football club. As I said before Gelsenkirchen and Schalke are  the theme of my halfmen army, therefore a mascot has to be. This is the real Erwin:

erwin

Of course my Erwin will look a bit more menacing at last he is a army mascot and not one of a football club.

So here is Otto the wizard:

And his apprentice, little Carl ,keeper of the magic book of spells:

As you can see I used a black background for these pictures I think it works better then the white one . What do you think?

So when the summoning spell is cast who will be turning up? Erwin of course but who is Erwin……   More in the next days!

Shieldmaiden Infantry boxed set

The Shieldmaiden Infantry boxed set is the second hard-plastic kit to be released by Shieldwolf Miniatures. This particular set was succesfully funded during the War is coming: Shieldmaidens Army Reboot Kickstarter in early 2016. Gathering more than $80.000 and backed by more than 550 backers, these miniature were put into production and are now almost ready to be delivered and released for retail. Shieldwolf Miniatures is always trying to improve the quality and detail of their miniatures so let’s take a look if they have managed to raise the bar on these new Shieldmaidens. This modular plastic kits contains 20 miniatures but you can kitbash 24 as there are more bodies than left arms included The full review can be found here. You will find many pictures of the individual sprues in the review. The set is very recommended for kit bashing etc. I will use them for my ongoing Game of Thrones kit bashes. I need some female Wildlings!

As the company behind the iconic Warhammer table-top game, Lenton-based Games Workshop has become a global name.

But it has also spawned a series of thriving spin-out businesses in miniature wargaming that have secured Nottingham’s reputation as the so-called “Lead Belt”, as Dan Robinson reports. Read the complete article here

The long range halfman scout

Now that I dropped out of the build something contest over on LAF, I can show you here what I did in Jan/Feb. I build the “long range halfman scout ” using the plans of  a flyer similar to Otto Lilienthals flying machine launched from a catapult. Here are the pictures of the build:

1893-1894-zeitschrift-vom-fels-zum-meer-1130-5-ein-flugapparat-von-otto-lilienthal-dargestellt-in-der-presse-1894

I got som plans of the Lilienthals Flugapparat on the web . But I used only the plans of the wings the fuselage was my own concoction.

These are the plans of the wings and my sketch of the machine. I started by building the wings first . I copied them onto very thin extruded polystyrene (2mm) induct them out the supporting wooden frame was build with toothpicks.

on the last picture you can see how thin the wing is . It is very translucent indeed. Next are the tail wings.

When these were all finished I started on the fuselage.

The pilot is a figure by Westfalia miniatures. One of their Halfmen figures. Of course he needed a paper pilots helmet and some goggles .

Then the wings and the fuselage were joined:

Here are pictures of the “one halfman “power supply for the prop

Next step was painting the machine and the pilot:

Here is the picture I used for the build something contest:

Halfman Scout Flugapparat

And Finale some pictures of the scout in action:

I hope you like what you see. In the future the next vehicle I want to scratch build in a Viking Knarr ship in 28mm. So watch this space.

My sons Ork Blood bowl team

FullSizeRender

This is my sons Ork blood bowl team which I painted for him. It was a daunting task as I painted them all at the same time. Normally I only work on one figure at a time to keep up my painting mojo, because you see more quickly that you get something finished that way. This time it was doing the skin on twelve models, doing the armor, doing the clothes always in batches of 12. I am happy that I can turn back to the single miniature approach now. I told him to do his human team by himself. I mean he is quite a painter himself!

So here are many more pictures of each Ork player for you to enjoy!

Hope you like what you see !! If so feel free to leave a like or a comment!

The last of Dietrichs warriors for now

Here is the last of Dietrichs warriors for now.

Next Project will be building a Viking Knarr ship. Oposed to the famous longships these were shorter and wider ships used for trade and exploration . This ship type was probably used by the Vikings who settled on Iceland and went to the americas.
