The beginning of my first squad of a US Marines platoon , Vietnam1968

As you can see here and here  I started using the new Games workshop Contrast paints on the new Vietnam war ranges of Empress and Gringo 40.

As I am on my summer holiday now I took a few figures with me and will paint them up over the coming fortnight.

Here is the first figure finished. Grunt No I , a Empress miniature sculpted by Paul Hicks:

Next one tomorrow. The Uniform equipment and skin was done in Contrast paints the rest conventionally.

Citadel Contrast paint test, part II

IMG_1561

So i finished the test miniature. It took me about 20 minutes to do , excluding drying times. I think it is a good table top standard. Definitely not for a painting competition. But can be used for one as a base or starting point. I tried this to see how quick I could get a new army painted by using mainly Contrast paints.

In my summer holiday (two weeks of) I will try to paint as many as i can. Aim is to paint a complete squad of US Marines for Vietnam. Lets see how much I can manage in 2 weeks!

Citadel Contrast colours, a test

I got some of the new Vietnam War US Marines by Gringo 40 and by Empress.

Both wonderful 28mm sculpts. You can use both ranges together. the Gringo 40 ones are a tat larger so I cut the metal base of . Then they fit quite good.

Now to the test. I not only got those new miniatures but also a few of the new Games Workshop Contrast colours.

I wanted to test these on one of my new miniatures. The contrast colors are not really colours in the pure sense they are more like a heavy wash. A bit like the vallejo washes. The difference is that you get more shades. They seem to have more pigments then the washes i am used to. So what I did I used vallejo sky grey as a base coat and applied the washes as they are without thinning them .

Here I painted one of the green contrast paints on. The photo is taken right after application of the color so still a bit wet.

Added a skin tone  ( Gulliman flesh) quite dark. This is only one coat. Next time I would thin it down a bit. By the way you shouldn’t use water for thinning these contrast colours. There is a medium to thin them available at Games workshop too. I haven’t tried the wash medium i normally use to do my washes with on these colors.

The flack vest done in another green. As you can see after drying completely they are still a bit shiny. I will do the pouches etc in jet another green and at in the details with vallejo colors in the next days.

I will show the finished miniature then.

Don’t fear my Cruel seas friends there will be more ships in the future , too!

More orkishness

Here is another Ork I painted in the last days . Sorry for the blurry pictures ( have a problem with the camera at the moment)

More to come with hopefully better pictures

Space Marine Heroes

I treated myself to the new Space Marine heroes range by games workshop. they were available, up to now, only in Japan . Since last weekend you can get them in Europe , too. As far as I know they are available worldwide now.

This is a complete box with twelve figures. The set is meant to be set up in a shop like this:

I bought the complete box from an online retailer here in Germany. There are 9 different figures so there will be duplicates in this box.

IMG_8062

the individual figures are packed in their own boxes and you can’t tell which figure is inside. Lets hope every figure is in the box !

Here are the 12 figures I got and as you can see I got every figure of the nine different ones and 3 figures which were double. I am not sure if that is the case in every box or if I was just lucky. Now of to assemble and paint them as members of the Galactic Knights chapter brothers.

Tropper No 8 of the 2nd Gruppe

Here is trooper number 8 of 2nd Gruppe red Zug of the 1st Kompanie of the first Germania imperial guard regiment:

Another two to go. Next up will be a platoon of “Bär” self propelled howitzers wich I am building at the moment parallel  to painting these figures.

The 6th Trooper

here is the next trooper of the 2nd Gruppe 1st Germania imperial guard infantry regiment.

four more figures to do!

The 5th trooper of the second Gruppe

Here is the next trooper of my imperial guard regiment.

Again the head is from Anvil Industries the helmet from an Eisenkern trooper the rest is GW.

The Bär self propelled howitzer

As you might remember I scratch build the “Ziege” APC for my imperial guard army.

LRG_DSC02227

As this vehicle is build to be modular I can use the running gear to accommodate other payloads. The next payload is a self propelled howitzer module. It is called “Bär” (bear) in this configuration. It will be used as a stand in for a Basilisk in Warhammer40K games.

Here you see the undercarriage with the completed howitzer payload fitted, turning the vehicle into the Bär.

Here are pictures of the single parts wich will be cast in resin later.

And here are pictures of the building process. The parts were again build from extruded polystyrene .

The howitzer payload was designed after the Bundeswehr Panzerhaubitze 2000 wich looks like this:

More pictures when I finish casting and painting it up.
